DAY 10

Chapter 14

She opened her eyes to be met with Loris staring right back. They were still in the same position, their noses still touching, like Eskimo kisses. How long had he been watching her? Her leg had somehow wrapped around his body while she was sleeping, and it was still there. He was pulled close like a lover. She could feel his heartbeat in his lower region. His hand was on the low of her back, wrapping around to her waist.

“Do you always watch people sleep?” she said repositioning herself turning onto her back.

“Never gotten the chance before,” he said reminding her of his age. “Did you sleep well?”

“Yeah, why do you ask?”

“I’ve just never seen someone smile so much while they were sleeping. Didn’t even know that’s a thing.”

“I was smiling?” she asks sitting up and crossing her legs.

“And you kept talking. It’s what woke me up,” he said.

“Oh God, what did I say,” she thought. She remembered her not so innocent sexy dream immediately.

Loris, sensing she was embarrassed, let up a little.

“Oh, nothing much, except that you kept calling out my name. Loris! Loris!”

El, turned to Loris with her mouth wide open. “Liar!” she said, chucking a pillow at him.

“Nah, you didn’t, but a guy can dream right?”

“Is that what you dream of then?” she retaliated.

Relieved he was just kidding, she laid back down, cuddling the pillow.

“I don’t want to leave.”

“You’re telling me you want to stay with some strangers instead of it just being us?”

“No, I mean bed; I don’t want to get out of bed today,” she clarified, unwrapping a Snickers.

He laid back down too, turning towards her.

“Yeah I could get used to waking up to this view every morning,” he said.

“Is there an off switch to your charm? You might as well give up, it’s not happening.”

“Come on, you love it.”

“True.”

They both started laughing as if they had been the type of friends who had inside jokes.

“You guys up?” a voice yelled from behind the door. It was Maya.

“Yeah, we’ll be down in 5,” Ellie said. The footsteps disappeared.

“Guess it’s time to face the world,” Loris said throwing on his shirt. He helped Ellie get dressed.

As they made their way downstairs, the smell of coffee greeted them. Ellie immediately lit up.

“Morning,” Elliot said, handing Ellie a cup of coffee while ignoring Loris. Ellie smiled and took a sip, then passed it to Loris who grabbed the cup and eyed Elliot.

“You guys sleep well? It sure sounded like it,” Maya chuckled.

“El cut herself up pretty deep; we were sewing her up” Loris defended.

“That’s a relief,” otherwise I’d be jealous,” Elliot said, smiling at El.

Loris moved closer to her.

“So, here’s the deal,” Maya got straight to it. “If you wanna stay here, that’s great. But you gotta help out. We all contribute here.”

“Sounds fair,” Ellie said.

“Not sure how long we’re staying though,” Loris interjected.

“That’s fine, but as long as you’re here, you can help us hunt.”

“Hunt what? Animals? It looks like there’s enough food here to last months.
